Friends of Giffords Surgery is led entirely by patients of Giffords Surgery who volunteer their time and expertise.


Our trustees bring a wide range of professional and community experience to ensure the charity is well governed, transparent, and focused on improving patient care.

Sarah Williams Martin

Sarah Williams Martin

Chair
Sarah lives in Melksham and is a Solicitor and Higher Court Advocate with extensive experience in charity leadership and governance.

She previously founded and managed a dementia charity, supported community initiatives during the COVID pandemic, and continues to volunteer with St John Ambulance.

Sarah also provides strong leadership and strategic direction to the Board.
Claire Collins

Based in Broughton Gifford, Claire is a retired social worker with a background in adult social care and the NHS.

She supports the charity’s day-to-day operations, governance, and grant applications, ensuring our work aligns with patient needs and community priorities.
Emma Fletcher

Vice Chair & Trustee
Emma is the Practice Manager and represents Giffords Surgery and provides a vital link between the charity and the practice team, ensuring our activities complement the surgery’s priorities for patient care.
Jan Ellinger

Vice Secretary
Jan is a retired teacher with extensive experience in special educational needs. She helps to plan and deliver events, bringing excellent organisational skills and strong community links through her involvement in local initiatives such as the Seend Fete.
Gillian Elson

Gillian lives in Bowerhill and is an award-winning marketing professional. She supports the charity’s communications and publicity, helping to raise awareness of our projects.

She also volunteers in local care services and was recently elected as a councillor for Melksham Town Council.

Trustee & Social Media Co-Ordinator
Gillian lives in Bowerhill and is an award-winning marketing professional. She supports the charity’s communications and publicity, helping to raise awareness of our projects.

She also volunteers in local care services and was recently elected as a councillor for Melksham Town Council.
Stephen Thomas

Stephen Thomas

Trustee
Stephen is an engineer at the University of Bath. He brings valuable technical knowledge and practical problem-solving skills to the charity.

Stephen designed and built the commemorative beacon for our VE Day celebration and continues to support our projects with creativity and precision.
Niall McDougall

Niall McDougall

Treasurer
Niall brings extensive experience from public service and community sport. As Chair of Winsley Cricket Club, he promotes inclusion and accessibility in local sport.

A strategic thinker and natural leader, Niall strengthens our links with community partners and helps guide the charity’s long-term development.
Jim Morris

Jim Morris

Trustee
Jim chairs a school appeals panel and the Broughton Gifford Bowls Club. He is also involved with the local foodbank and canal maintenance projects.

With a professional background in health and safety, Jim ensures our events and activities are well-planned and compliant. He brings a calm, caring approach to his role as trustee.
Mark Harris

Mark Harris

Trustee
Mark, from Bowerhill, has extensive community and voluntary sector experience.

He is Chair of Bowerhill Village Hall, sits on the Wiltshire Police Independent Advisory Group, and serves as Membership Secretary for the Melksham Transport User Group.

Mark is also active in canal restoration and represents the community as a councillor for Melksham Without Parish Council.
Ros Carlile

Ros Carlile

Based in Melksham, Ros is the Nurse Manager and an Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Giffords Surgery with a 44-year career in nursing and Emergency Medicine.
Ros brings extensive clinical governance experience and a deep understanding of the practice’s operations, ensuring the charity’s initiatives directly support both patient wellbeing and the surgery’s frontline needs.
