Who We Are

We are a group of patients who want to help other patients at Giffords Surgery. We have come together to create Friends of Giffords Surgery. We are independent from the surgery, but we work closely with them.

We have:

  • A Board of Members who guide our work
  •  Volunteers who give their time to help

Everyone who helps is a patient and a volunteer. No one is paid. You can learn more about us by clicking “Meet the Team.”

What We Do

We give our time to make the surgery a better and more comfortable place for everyone.

We do this by:

  • Organising patient workshops at the surgery. Topics include healthy eating, healthy sleep, back pain, dementia and basic first aid.
  •  Raising money for items and activities that the NHS does not usually pay for.
  • Finding local help and support services, and sharing this information with patients and staff.
  • Producing a regular newsletter for patients.

We work closely with surgery staff and patients to understand what is needed most.

How the Money We Raise Helps

The money we raise helps pay for:

  • Equipment for the surgery
  • Health workshops and support groups
  • Small comforts to make your visit easier
  •  Community events where you can meet others
  •  A directory of local services offering friendship and support

Together, we help make the surgery welcoming, supportive and connected to the community.

How You Can Help

We welcome anyone who wants to take part — you can join as a member, volunteer, or come along to our events and workshops Together, we’re helping Giffords Surgery to be an even more caring and supportive place for everyone.

Our Area

Friends of Giffords Surgery supports patients registered with Giffords Surgery and people living within its practice boundary.

The area includes Melksham and the surrounding villages such as Seend, Broughton Gifford, Atworth, Shaw, Whitley, Holt, Bowerhill, Beanacre, and areas reaching towards Corsham, Lacock, Bromham, and Rowde.

Our projects and events take place across this area, working with local partners and community venues to make activities as accessible as possible for everyone within the surgery’s reach.

A map of the Giffords Surgery boundary is shown below, highlighting the
area we cover.
